Students at Lanakila Elementary School were taught money management skills by American Savings Bank employees. It was all part of a volunteer program with Junior Achievement of Hawaii.
About 50 fifth-graders learned the basics about money management, saving, spending, using credit and managing risk.
Bank volunteers used JA’s “Common Cents” curriculum and Smart Consumer Game which are specifically designed for fifth-graders.
This effort is part of the bank’s on-going partnership with JA to provide financial literacy education in Hawaii’s communities.
“Understanding how to manage your money and build good credit is key to making smart financial decisions,” said Rich Wacker, American Savings Bank President & Chief Executive Officer. “American Savings Bank is committed to supporting financial literacy education to our keiki and their families.”
Today’s class at Lanakila Elementary was scheduled to coincide with the American Bankers Association’s national Get Smart About Credit Day which is recognized on the third Thursday in October.
