Walmart has opened a temporary hiring center in Kapolei to fill approximately 300 associate positions for the new Kapolei Walmart.

The company says the jobs come with competitive wages and benefits, and opportunities to build a career.

The temporary hiring center, located at 338 Kamokila Blvd., is directly across from Home Depot and just above Starbucks in Kapolei.

Walmart’s new store is scheduled to open in spring 2012.

“We’re hiring both full- and part-time associates for all areas of the new store, including supervisory positions,” said Janie Whitehead, newly-appointed store manager. “Walmart is
excited to bring the convenience of our new store along with good jobs to Kapolei. We’re also pleased to share with the community that our project is supporting approximately 200
construction workers through Nordic PCL.”

The company provides associates career opportunities.

Walmart’s benefit program is available to eligible full- and part-time associates and provides a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits including medical insurance with no lifetime maximum. Walmart also offers matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise for store associates, a Sam’s Club membership for club associates, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance.

Additionally, eligible associates receive an annual incentive based on the company performance.

Many will get jobs and pay taxes. We need in Hawaii more people working and paying taxes. Less burden on those already working and paying excess taxes beyond the norm. Save on paying unions dues and go non-union with competive wages. Get paid only what a worker is worth and not because they are union members. Weed out the bad workers and keep the good ones. 30 to 40 years is a long ways before one can retire. Take what is offered and save money for retirement.

Competitive wages?? Almost half the people working for walmart can qualify for foodstamps. It would be a lot better if KHON would report the whole story!
