Some Hawaiian Airlines planes are going green.

Today, the airline unveiled one of its planes fitted with new winglets.

The winglets improve the plane's fuel efficiency, saving on fuel and reducing carbon emissions.

By next year, Hawaiian hopes to retrofit eight planes with the technology.

“Our customers benefit whenever we find new efficiencies it helps reduce our costs and in a competitive business like ours when we can reduce our costs it always gets passed along to the consumer,” said Hawaiian Airlines president and CEO, Mark Dunkerley.

It takes about a month to install a pair of winglets at a cost of two million dollars per aircraft.
