There are more collaborations happening all the time when it comes to energy conservation and sustainability.

These youngsters at Waialae Elementary public charter school are listening to the poetry of Anthony Garnett Junior.  He's on board at Sunetric to spread the message of the importance of renewable energy.

There's significance to his appearance at the school.

Sunetric has been working with the school to install photovoltaic panels on the school roof.

"We just installed a 138 kilowatt system.  So the school will see savings of about a thousand dollars a month.  And what made it really interesting is we just kicked off an art and poetry contest to help teach the kids about what we did on the school,” said Laura Poirier of Sunetric.

And that's why Anthony's here.

He is trying to inspire students to create their own poems or art work regarding energy conservation or alternate energy sources.

"So we're looking for students to recognize an environmental problem related to energy and then come with a solution to communicate with everybody else in the community to help share the message,” said Poirier.

Sunetric has already partnered with other institutions to facilitate solar power.

Laura says there are other opportunities for schools to get involved.

"We hope so.  We think it's really important for us to partner with schools and help teach the youth about sustainability because they are the future and it's going to be what makes Hawaii a sustainable place,” said Poirier.
