The light bulb has come a long way since Thomas Edison developed the incandescent bulb in 1879.
The latest incarnation is the light-emitting diode --- the LED.
You may have them up as Christmas decorations right now.
Consumers will only accept a new technological advancement if it makes sense in their lives. In this case, LED's make sense when it comes to your pocketbook.
“LED's can save you a substantial amount of money on your lighting costs. This is primarily because LED's have a much longer lifetime than traditional lighting sources,” said Natalie Stewart of the Hawaii Home Expo.
"The beta LED's, which last up to a 150,000 hours which is equivalent to 17 years operating at 24 hours a day 7 days a week,” said Stewart.
Hawaii Home Expo is partnered with betaLED to provide customers with the proper LED lighting for their needs. These photos were provided to us by betaLED.
"Hawaii Home Expo provides customized lighting solutions for residential, commercial and industrial applications,” said Stewart. "Your return on investment can be about 2 to 3 years for commercial applications."
Here in Hawaii, LED lights have already been put into use. If you live near Ko Olina, you notice that the street lights are all LED street lights.
Why did it take so long to develop this technology?
"I think a lot of times, testing and patents are involved with LED lighting and with new technology being developed. It takes a long time these things to be available to the market and be mass produced,” said Stewart.
We should point out that some of the pictures you've seen are before and after, or so normal lights next to the betaLED's.
"Another advantage that you have with going with Hawaii Home Expo is that we offer 22 different optics which is essentially 22 different light distributions which provides each customer with a customized lighting solution,” said Stewart.
