Megan Garvey from Nordstrom showed us several examples of the store's green efforts and told us why the store is moving in that direction.
"if we can conserve natural resources and also marry that with our customer shopping preferences then it's a win-win for both of us, so this is a very small sampling of some of the eco-conscious gift ideas that you'll find in the store," said Megan Garvey of Nordstrom.
When you go shopping - you need a shopping bag.
"And it has this great artwork by the artist Rubin Toledo. It also folds up into this nice included zip top pouch for twenty dollars and it's perfect to pick up souvenirs or if you're doing some unexpected shopping," said Garvey.
And the wild part? It's made from recycled water bottles! Garvey has done her research when it comes to fabric.
"Cotton - one of our most popular fabrics is actually one of the most damaging on the environment so we do strive to partner with companies that use exclusively organic cotton. This company, Threads for Thought, is a husband and wife team and again, exclusive organic cotton. They also give back to charity, they promote a clean environment, and they're an advocate for peace," said Garvey.
There have been lots of efforts to have people buy local - for the economy and the environment. When the store can, it tries to encourage those efforts.
"This is actually an organic baby carrier. It's from Ergo Baby which is a Maui based company and made of all organic cotton, so another great piece for the baby," said Garvey.
Megan also showed us some jewelry, made from recycled materials. The point of all this is to keep waste out of our landfills. Nordstrom has also been working toward that with it's streamlined packaging effort.
"So we've been able to save 450 tons of paper and one point two million yards of ribbon as a result of the savings," said Garvey.
