A lot of us are becoming more aware, and afraid of, germs and bugs.

There is a new product coming to the market that could be the answer to those fears.

The pressure is on to stay healthy and the latest obsession is washing our hands every five minutes with anti-bacterial soap or spraying that keyboard or desk phone with an anti-bacterial spray. That's time consuming. There is a new product that lasts longer, and fights bugs with bugs.

"And those bugs are actually inside the chemical where if you do a slight mist, it kind of causes a haze over the surface you sprayed it on," said Hope Gonsalves of Hawaii Home Expo.

What happens then?

"That causes a bed of needles, so to speak, that when bacteria lands on it, the needles are puncturing it," Gonsalves said.

You have to remember, this is happening on the molecular level. I asked about the difference between Bioshield and other anti-bacterials.

"The disinfectants and anti-bacterial sprays that are out there on the market now are either not fully made with non-chemicals, this has no chemicals in it and they're only a temporary use, they're for a short period, you have to keep re-applying," Gonsalves said.

According to the manufacturer, Bioshield only has to be applied every month on commonly used objects. In the household, where you store dishes you only use once a year, it can last for years.

"It's safe for cupboards, carpets. You can also re-apply it on certain things like cell phones, doorknobs, counter surfaces, hardwood flooring, that kind of thing, so if there's areas that you have children playing or they're going to be climbing up on, then you could put it on furniture," Gonsalves said.
