HONOLULU (KHON2) - Sam and John visit the home of Lois Hunter and Mike Morgan in Kahala. Sam creates Sloppy Joe Nachos out of leftover ground beef, jalapeños and a red bell pepper, and introduces a new take on fried rice, using cauliflower.

Bronzed Steaks with Truffle Oil

  • 4 steaks
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Aloha Shoyu Mango Pineapple Teriyaki Glaze
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons Truffle oil

Cook steaks over high heat.  Pan sear for 5-6 minutes for medium rare.  Remove from heat and let rest. Deglaze the same pan with Mango Pineapple Teriyaki Glaze, mushrooms, tomatoes and truffle oil. Pour mixture into a small bowl and serve on the side.  Slice steaks, drizzle with truffle oil and serve.

Sloppy Joe Nachos

  • 1 bag tortilla chips
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, julienned
  • 1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 quart sloppy joe mixture
  • Jalapeno peppers, sliced
  • Cilantro for garnish

Place chips in a casserole dish. Top with red bell peppers, mushrooms and cheese. Spoon sloppy joe mixture on top. Repeat layer. Finish final layer with jalapeno peppers, red bell peppers and cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Garnish with cilantro.

Cauliflower "Fried Rice"

  • 2 1/2 cups cauliflower, finely grated and sauteed with olive oil, salt and pepper
  • 1 piece char siu chicken, sliced
  • 1 strip red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Aloha Shoyu
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Saute chicken in olive oil for 2 minutes. Add red bell pepper, onions and spinach. Cook for 3 minutes or until spinach is wilted.  Add cauliflower, oyster sauce and shoyu. Mix well and serve.
